DALLAS – Sierra Frazier was named to the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate scholarship on Thursday by the C-USA office.
The Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship enters its 15th year of its existence, being named after Dr. Jim Castañeda, a coach, educator and faculty member who worked for Rice spanning from 1961 to the 2000s. He served on the baseball and golf coaching staff in the 1980s and 90s, being granted a golf scholarship holding his namesake in 2001. His tenure came to an end in 2008 with his passing, where he dedicated 46 years of service.
Conference USA grants a $4,000 scholarship to graduates selected by the Faculty Athletics Representatives throughout the league and approved by the Conference USA Board of Directors.
The catcher from Corona, California finished the season with a flurry of awards and accolades, including a Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference nod. She adds the postgraduate scholarship to the docket, being one of 11 athletes to receive the honor.
Over her five years at UAB, Frazier collected five postseason awards and numerous academic honors, including an Easton NFCA All-Academic Scholar Athlete and multiple Dean's List and President's List nods over her career. She finished her final year with a 3.80 GPA.
