UAB Earns Seventh Straight ITA Community Service Award, Smith Takes Home Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award
The UAB women's tennis team has won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southern Regional Community Service Award as announced by the association today. This marks the fourth straight year the Blazers have taken home the award.
The Blazers have volunteered at Children's of Alabama, put on a tennis clinics and meal packing for Rise Against Hunger. Additionally, the team volunteered at for the Ronald McDonald House, Lovelady Thrift Store and the UAB Engineering Fair.
Additionally, Annalisa Smith was awarded the Southern Regional Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award. This is awarded to the student-athlete who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team's performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis. The award dates back to 1997 and is in memory of the late and widely admired Penn women's tennis coach Cissie Leary.
Smith becomes the second recipient of the award, joining Jana Hecking who was honored in 2020.
The national award winners will be announced next Monday, June 12th.
