UAB Falls in Doubleheader Against Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – UAB (15-34, 6-20) fell to Middle Tennessee (25-23, 14-12) in both games of a doubleheader on Saturday, May 13 at Reese Smith Jr. Field. The Blazers dropped both games by one run which included a 3-2 loss in game one and a 8-7 loss in game two.
GAME ONE – 3-2, MTSU
Gavin Lewis Jr. started the day off with a lead-off home run – his third of the season – to put UAB on the board first, but Middle Tennessee struck back in the bottom of the inning by plating two runs on the board to take the lead. A pitching duel lead to four straight scoreless innings until the Blazers tied the game after Logan Braunschweig tripled the scored off a single from Tyler Waugh. The Blue Raiders put another run on the board to regain the lead and hold it until the final out.
Starting pitcher, Brooks Walton (3-6), received the loss after he allowed three runs, which only one was earned, on five hits with six strikeouts. Leo Harris relieved Walton in the eighth and allowed no runs on one hit with three strikeouts.
Highlights:
Although MTSU scored first in the third, UAB answered back after scoring multiply runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to take a 6-1 over the Blue Raiders. In the eighth MTSU scored six runs – four earned – to come from behind, tie the game then take a one-run lead. The Blazers tied the game after Brayton Brown collected his 15th double on the year then scored off a single from Brandon Willoughby. In the bottom of the tenth, MTSU hit a walk-off home run to secure the win.
Blayze Berry started on the mound for UAB and allowed four runs – three earned – on six hits through seven and two third innings before being relieved by John Luke Marlin and Tyler O'Clair. Marlin allowed three runs – two earned – on five hits through one and one third inning before O'Clair (1-2) received the loss after giving up the go-ahead run in the tenth.
