UAB Concludes 2023 Home Campaign Against UTEP

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Softball concludes its home series campaign against UTEP for the final week of April. The Green and Gold come off a four-game win streak, pushing them to a record of 25-21 and 12-6 in C-USA Play.
The Blazers kick off Senior and Alumni Weekend with their first game on Friday, April 28, 6 PM against the Miners at Mary Bowers Field. The Green and Gold will recognize the past and present of the Softball Program with a Softball Alumni Recognition Friday and Senior Day on Sunday.

SCOUTING THE MINERS
UTEP currently sits at a record of 2-16 in C-USA play in 2023, where the two wins are against UTSA and WKU. Between the Blazers and Miners, UAB leads the overall series with 34 wins to UTEP's 12. The last meeting between the two teams resulted in a UAB sweep.
UTEP is ranked third in the league in batting average with .275, with Savannah Favre leading the miners in batting, slugging, and RBIs. Favre totals five triples on the season this year, putting her fifth in the conference in the statistical category. In the circle, Zaylie Calderon leads the way in ERA with an average of 4.50. The Tucson, Arizona native has pitched 102.2 innings and has struck out 80 batters throughout the 2023 season.
As a team, UTEP and UAB are neck-and-neck in fielding double plays this season, with the Blazers edging out the Miners by three (UAB: 22, UTEP: 19). The Miners have given up 52 stolen bases this season but hold an on-base percentage of .351, the third highest in the conference. UTEP is ranked third in the league in homers, with 42 on the season.

FRIDAY, APRIL 28: Alumni Recognition
UAB Softball Alumni will be present for a pregame recognition for Friday night. UAB's past team members will walk the field, with the 2013 team receiving a nod for their tenth anniversary of their 2013 Super Regional Appearance.
SATURDAY, APRIL 29: Donate Life Day
For National Donate Life Month, UAB Softball will educate and amplify the importance of organ donation throughout the game and with marketing and promotional materials.
SUNDAY, April 30: Senior Day
UAB Softball recognizes their five seniors in their final season in the Green and Gold. Bailey Tindell, Cassady Greenwood, Chloe Bahruth, Sarah Cespedes, and Sierra Frazier make one last curtain call at Mary Bowers Field against UTEP.
