UAB Drops Game Two at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UAB Baseball (12-26, 4-13) dropped Saturday night's game to the Charlotte (21-17, 11-5) by a score of 11-6 on April 22.

The 49ers got on the board first after collecting one run during their first at bat then extended their lead after four consecutive multiple run innings. The Blazers put four runs on the board in the third after Gavin Lewis Jr. led off the inning with a home run followed by back-to-back walks then a two-run double from Logan Braunschweig. UAB put up a run in the seventh and eighth inning but fell to collect any more during its last at bat.

Blayze Berry (2-3) received the loss after he allowed eight runs – earned – on nine hits with two walks and a strikeout during four and one third innings. Four Blazers followed Berry including Colin Daniel, JC Sewell, Carson Knight and Thomas Ballard. Daniel faced seven batters and allowed two runs – earned. Sewell spent an inning on the mound and allowed one earned run on two hits before Knight and Ballard both threw shutout innings for UAB.

Three Blazers collected a multi-hit game including Braunschweig (3-for-4), John Marc Mullins (2-for-5) and Lewis Jr. (2-for-3). Braunschweig collected a two-run double, two singles and scored a run while Mullins collected a single and a double. Lewis Jr. collected his first home run of the season and his seventh double.
