UAB Falls 3-1 in Extra Innings on Sunday

BIRMINGHAM – UAB (5-14, 0-3) dropped the final game 3-1 to Rice (11-9, 3-0) in extra innings on Sunday, March 19.
UAB jumped out early in the second inning after an RBI single from Tyler Waugh which brough in Henry Hunter who reached base after being hit by a pitch. Rice tied the game late in the seventh inning followed by two and a half scoreless innings which sent the game into extras. The Owls took a two-run lead in the top of the tenth followed by the Blazers leaving one man on-base during the final out.
UAB sent seven pitchers to the mound including starter Carson Myers and Ben Abernathy (0-2) who received the loss after he faced six batters and allowed one run on two hits. Myers threw a complete five inning game and allowed no runs on three hits with four strikeouts. Five other Blazers spent time on the mound including Christian Clack, Tyler O'Clair, John Luke Marlin, Carson Knight and Tyler Haines.
Clack threw one and a third of an inning to collect two strikeouts and allow one run – earned. O'Clair, Knight and Haines threw for a combined two thirds of an inning and allowed one run on one hit. Marlin faced ten batters during his two and a third innings on the mound. He allowed no runs on one hit with four strikeouts – a new season high.
Blazers collected seven hits, four of those hits came from Logan Braunschweig (2-for-4) and Blayze Berry (2-for-4) who both reached base twice on singles. John Marc Mullins and Tyler Waugh also collected hits with Waugh collecting an RBI to bring in Hunter who scored UAB's only run.

UAB Baseball is set to travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for a mid-week matchup against Alabama on Tues., March 21. First pitch is scheduled for 6 P.M. on SEC Network+.
