UAB Baseball Drops Tuesday Night Game to No. 25 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The UAB Blazers (5-15) dropped the mid-week matchup in eight innings against the Alabama Crimson Tide (18-4) by 12-2 on Tuesday, March 21 at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
UAB scored a run in the first inning after John Marc Mullins led off with a single then advanced to second on a wild pitch before Blayze Berry hit an RBI single which scored Mullins. The Blazers held a 1-0 until the fourth inning where Alabama scored two runs on one hit then the Crimson Tide extended their lead in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. UAB added another run after Berry reached on a wild pitch then scored on a Brayton Brown double.
UAB sent ten pitchers to the mound for a combined 7.2 innings. JC Sewell started for the Blazers and threw one shutout inning before nine pitchers followed including Braxton Shelton (0-1) who received the loss after he allowed two runs – unearned – on one hit with one strikeout. Thomas Ballard, Leo Harris, Tyler O'Clair and Tyler Haines all threw one complete inning. Ballard and Harris allowed no runs on two hits. O'Clair threw a shutout before Haines allowed five runs – earned – on three hits. Jonah Smith, Isaac Warrick, Zaylen Perry and Colin Daniel followed Haines and threw a combined 1.2 innings to allow a total of five runs on five hits.
Offensively for UAB, two Blazers collected a multi-hit game – Christian Hall (2-for-4) and Blayze Berry (2-for-4). Hall hit two singles which extended his hitting streak to five games, and Berry also hit two singles with one being an RBI – his first of the year. John Marc Mullins, Logan Braunschweig, Brayton Brown, Henry Hunter and Nick Hollifield all collected one hit. Brown received an RBI after hitting a double down the left field line, and Hollifield collected his first collegiate hit.
