UAB Travels to FIU for Weekend Series

BIRMINGHAM – UAB (5-15, 0-3 C-USA) will travel to Miami, Fla. for a three-game series against Florida International University (12-10, 1-2 C-USA) from March 24-26.

Entering the second weekend of C-USA play, the Blazers stay 10th overall in the conference after going 0-3 last weekend to Rice. The Panthers sit 7th after dropping the series to Dallas Baptist University (1-2). UAB sits right behind FIU in fielding percentage – FIU (.977), UAB (.975). Both the Blazers (6th) and the Panthers (10th) are towards the bottom of the conference for ERAs.
UAB BLAZERS
Blayze Berry (.352), Logan Braunschweig (.341) and Christian Hall (.286) lead the Blazers in batting averages. Three players currently sit with a .400 or better on-base percentage including Braunschweig (.442), John Marc Mullins (.438) and Hall (.419). Individually, Hall still leads UAB in most hits (20) and RBIs (17) while Mullins leads the team in runs (17), triples (2) and posts the highest slugging percentage (.379).
Starting Rotation:
UAB will keep its weekend rotation – Brooks Walton, Blayze Berry and Carson Myers. Walton (1-2, 5.01 ERA) received the loss in game one versus Rice after he allowed three runs – all earned – on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts during his five innings. Berry (1-1, 3.49) collected a season high in strikeouts during his last outing on March 18 which puts him with the most strikeouts on the team (28). Myers (0-1, 3.28) threw five complete innings in game three versus Rice and allowed no runs on three hits.
FIU PANTHERS
FIU enters the weekend with one conference win under its belt after defeating DBU 7-6 on March 19 then the Panthers dropped their mid-week against Florida Gulf Coast University 12-5. The Panthers have several players batting .300 or better that includes Dante Girardi who is riding a 12-game hit streak. Mike Rosario leads the team in hits, home runs and steals while Ryne Guida holds the most RBIs. FIU's rotation starts with Ryan Cabarcas on Friday followed by Richie Pena then Angel Tiburcio on Sunday.
UAB AND FIU HISTORY
Since 2014, the Panthers have led the Blazers 13-9 in the series record, but UAB took the last matchup after run-ruling FIU 14-4 through eight innings on May 15, 2022.
