UAB Baseball Battles but Falls 7-8 to Troy on Tuesday

TROY, Ala. – After having battled on both sides of the ball, UAB (3-5) dropped the mid-week matchup to Troy (8-0) on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at Riddle-Pace Field.

Eight Blazers took the mound including Leo Harris, who started, Isaac Warrick, Jonah Smith, Thomas Ballard, John Luke Marlin, Christian Clack, Braxton Shelton and Carson Knight. Marlin (0-1) received the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the fifth.

Harris spent two innings on the mound and allowed three runs – earned – on five hits with two strikeouts. He was followed by Warrick, who also allowed three runs, and Smith who spent one inning on the bump and allowed only two hits. Ballard and Clack threw for a combined 1.2 innings while allowing two runs on one combined hit with four strikeouts. Shelton and Knight held Troy to no runs on a hit in the eight.

The Blazers scored in the third, fourth, fifth and ninth and collected three RBIs on two outs. UAB's Darryl Buggs (2-for-5), Brayton Brown (2-for-4) and Ben Abernathy (2-for-4) all recorded multi-hit games. Buggs, who extend his hitting streak to five games, singled in the third and collected an RBI. Brown collected an RBI double in the third which put the Blazers on the board. Abernathy scored two of UAB's runs and recorded a single.

UAB welcomes Power 5 Norte Dame to Birmingham for a three-game series. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 2 P.M.
