UAB Softball Defeats Cleveland State 9-0 in Six

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB softball team tallied nine runs on 14 hits and received a dominating performance from Sarah Cespedes in the circle as the Blazers defeated Cleveland State 9-0 in six innings on Friday night at Mary Bowers Field.
Cespedes allowed just two hits en route to her fourth victory of the season. Olivia Valbak was 3-for-4 at the plate and was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. The Blazers improved to 8-5 overall with the win, while Cleveland State is now 1-6.
After a walk and a stolen base from leadoff hitter Lauren Brock, she came across the plate courtesy of an Olivia Valbak RBI single to give the Blazers an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
After two and a half scoreless innings, the Blazers broke the game wide open in the bottom of the fourth with five runs on six hits to gain a 6-0 lead. Both Valbak and Sierra Frazier had RBI doubles, while Lauren Brock, Lilly Crowe and Bella Wiggins also drove in runs.
In the bottom of the sixth, Crowe added an RBI double, and Alyssa Aguilar ended the game with a two-RBI double to give the Blazers a 9-0 victory.
