UAB Volleyball Travels to Wichita for Regular Season Finale

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Volleyball enters its final week of conference play versus Wichita State. The Blazers come off a weekend where they defeated the UTSA Roadrunners in their final home match in Bartow Arena, sitting at a record of 5-25 and 3-15 in the AAC.
The Green and Gold travel to Wichita, Kansas, to take on a Shockers team for the first time in program history. The 20-8 Shockers sit second in the AAC East with a conference record of 14-4.

SCOUTING THE SHOCKERS
Wichita State enters the final week with notable non-conference meetings versus Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Illinois. The Shockers defeated two Power Five teams, one being Oklahoma in their first match of the year. Since then, WSU has gone 20-8 through the week of Nov. 20, with a 14-4 AAC record.
Statistically, the Shockers rank top-five in five statistical categories in the AAC. Offensively, the team ranks .246 in hitting percentage, only one spot away from SMU's first-place ranking. Averaging 13.25 kills per set, Wichita State ranks in the top 100 nationally in the statistical category. On the attack front, the Shockers are led by Natalie Foster, who totals 308 kills. Following Foster, Morgan Stout ranks third in kills with 245.
Additional players to watch for include Izzi Strand, who averages 10.33 assists per set, leading the conference in the stat. The senior setter totals 1126 assists in the 2023 season. On the defensive, Morgan Stout and Gabi Maas lead in blocks and digs. Stout and Maas rank top-ten in the AAC in their respective stat categories. As a team, the Shockers hold their opponents to a hitting percentage of .171, forcing 602 attack errors through 105 sets.
