UAB Gets by Middle Tennessee in 58-57 Road Win

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – UAB men's basketball (3-2) slipped past Middle Tennessee (3-2) on the road, 58-57. Javian Davis led the Blazers with a career high 21 points while Yaxel Lendeborg added nine points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked three shots.
Middle Tennessee jumped all over the Blazers in the early stages, taking a 15-2 lead only six minutes into the game. After Eric Gaines scored on UAB's first possession, the Blazers did not add another field goal until the 12:55 mark when James White scored on a putback.
The Blazers pressured the Blue Raiders on the defensive end to get back into the game. MTSU's final field goal of the half came with 5:40 on the clock and UAB closed the period on a 14-3 run to take a lead into the break.
To start the second half, UAB scored the first seven points to stretch its lead to eight after Eric Gaines' steal and dunk. Middle Tennessee quickly answered with a three on the next possession and the game was within five points for the rest of the night.
Yaxel Lendeborg scored seven of his nine points in the second half while Javian Davis scored 13 of his 21 over the final 20 minutes.
The Blazers led 58-57 with one minute to go in the contest and neither team was able to score in the final minute. UAB missed the front end of each of its one-and-one attempts, but MTSU was not able to capitalize.
