Volleyball Drops Second Match to Temple

PHILADELPHIA – UAB Volleyball fell to the Temple Owls early Saturday afternoon in straight sets. The Blazers sit at a record of 4-25 on the season, concluding their first series of meetings versus the Owls since 1991.
Freshman Mia Reese finished with double-digit kills, her second consecutive match where she finished within double digits in the stat.
IN THE SETS
Temple started with a 7-0 lead before UAB responded with back-to-back blocks and a kill to halt the run. The Blazers took advantage of their middle blockers, Chloe Rodriguez and Madison Page to tally up kills and get within seven before another scoring series put UAB within five. The set stayed in Temple's favor, leading 22-15 before a 5-0 run, taking advantage of errors from the Owls. With the score at 20-22, Temple tallied three straight to take set one.
Set two had the Blazers in front 2-1 before errors plagued the Green and Gold to give Temple the 5-2 lead. The set remained in the Owls' favor with the Blazers getting within three after a kill from Mia Reese. The Blazers remained behind, trailing by as much as eight before a 5-0 run put the Blazers within three. With the score 15-18, UAB continued to keep the score margin at three before back-to-back kills extended the lead to five. Temple added another two kills after giving up an error to take the second set.
In the final set, UAB trailed 1-9 early before a service error ended the run. Another 4-0 run put the Blazers behind 11 points before Reese and Page put the Blazers within ten. The Owls continued their lead, holding the Blazers to ten before tallying up a five-point run to get within a match point. The Green and Gold took advantage of back-to-back errors, but it would not prove favorable as Temple claimed the third set 25-12.
IN THE BOX
- There were only two tied scores and two lead changes in the match, all of which came in the second set.
- Mia Reese was the sole Blazer to finish with double-digit kills. She finished with the second-highest attack percentage with .296.
- Kelsey Smith finished with another 20+ assist match with 23.
UP NEXT
The Blazers return to Bartow Arena on Friday, November 17, facing the UTSA Roadrunners for their final home match of the season. The Green and Gold will celebrate three seniors for their senior night at 7 p.m.
