Men’s Soccer Falls to No. 25 FIU, 1-0

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's soccer (0-6-4, 0-3-1) battled all the way to the final whistle against No. 25 FIU (6-2-2, 4-0-0) on Wednesday night at PNC Field, falling 1-0. Isaac Calderon led the Blazers with four shots.
FIU applied pressure early, firing three shots in the first minute. The Panthers were able to score early in the first half, getting on the board in the 11th minute. Paulo Alves won the ball in the box and played it over to Eduardo Mustre, who put it in the back of the net.
The Blazers were able to answer with a number of dangerous chances in the first half, but they could not get a shot on frame.
In the second half, it was more of the same, with UAB having the lion's share of scoring opportunities. In the 53rd minute, Mathias Love Groth fired a shot from outside the box that hit the crossbar and went over the goal. Then, in the 57th minute, Tony Kim had a chance to put the Blazers level, but he could not get it on frame.
UAB could not find the equalizer in the final minutes.

The Blazers will travel to Boca Raton to take on Florida Atlantic on Sunday, October 8 at 6 p.m. CT.
