BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team is set to host Shorter University on Wednesday night at Bartow Arena for its only exhibition game ahead of the 2023-24 season. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
The Blazers return nine players from last year and introduce five new faces to a team that finished 14-17 a year ago.
"We are really excited to play a game tomorrow night. We look at it as another dress rehearsal for the season," Head Coach Randy Norton said. "We had a closed scrimmage last week and we feel like this is the next step to help prepare us for our opening night when we play Alabama A&M at home on Monday, Nov. 6.
"Our kids have been working extremely hard throughout preseason. We have had great practices and I think we are going to surprise a lot of people. It is a group that is extremely close and works hard every day. Defensively, I feel like we are really good for this time of year. We are able to create a lot of offense off our defense so that is exciting."
Sophomore Denim DeShields highlights the returning players and is coming off an All-Conference season as a freshman after averaging 13.0 points and 4.2 assists per game in 2022-23.
Admission to the exhibition game is $7 for adults and $5 for youth and can be purchased by clicking here.
