Women’s Tennis Has Strong Showing at ITA Southern Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La. – UAB finished the ITA Southern Regionals by defeating seven Power 5 opponents including the No. 1 overall doubles team this past weekend.
The doubles team of Vanessa Mellynchuk and Mackenzie White advanced to the quarterfinal round, defeating No. 1 seed Briana Crowley and Ava Hraster from Ole Miss 8-6. The duo also was an 8-5 winner over Alabama's Priya Nelson and Anna Parkhomenko.
In singles, Enya Ratkic advanced to the Round of 32 after defeating Auburn's Ava Esposito Cogan 6-1, 6-4. She also had a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Alabama's Ansley Cheshire.
Adela Wasserbauerova was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Mississippi State's Ava Roth. Sydney Clarke defeated LSU's Carolina Arnold 6-0, 6-2 and White defeated Roth 6-1, 6-0.
Overall, UAB recorded 16 wins in the event.
This weekend, the Blazers participate in the Samford Round Robin #2. This is the last chance to catch UAB in town until the regular season home opener on Jan. 26.
