BIRMINGHAM - UAB men's soccer (2-5-0, 0-1 AAC) will return to AAC action on the road against a familiar foe in FAU (1-4-2, 0-0-1 AAC). Both programs are looking to pick up their first win in AAC play since joining the league at the start of the 2022 season.
SERIES HISTORY
UAB leads the all-time series 6-5-0. In Boca Raton, the series is tied at two. FAU has won each of the last three meetings.
OFFICIALLY AAC
UAB men's soccer is the first of all Blazer programs to join the American Athletic Conference. While each of the other UAB programs will join the league in 2023, men's soccer became an affiliate member for the 2022 season due to C-USA no longer supporting men's soccer.
COMMON OPPONENTS
FAU tied with USF in its first conference match as a member of the AAC while the Blazers fell to No. 11 Charlotte. Both programs will be looking to pick up their first-ever AAC wins.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLAZERS
UAB fell on the road against Mercer by a score of 3-2. After falling behind 1-0, Nathaniel St. Louis found the back of the net to tie it up before assisting Ohad Buck's first collegiate goal to take the lead early in the second half. Mercer was able to score a pair of late goals to pick up the victory.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
FAU has scored only five goals over its seven games so far. Three of those five goals have been scored by senior forward Victor Claudel. In goal, the Owls have played two keepers in Neil Strauber and Axel Hoffmann. Strauber has started each of the last five games while allowing only 1.4 goals per game.
RETURNING PRODUCTION
The Blazers return three of their top four goal scorers from the 2021 campaign in Nathaniel St. Louis, Brooks Rice and Curtis DeLeon. Also returning is Teodor Thorvaldsen who led the team with four assists.
WE'RE ALL FROM SOMEWHERE
UAB men's soccer has student-athletes from six states and eight different countries (Norway, Canada, Germany, Spain, Israel, Hungary, Austria). Alabama is the most well-represented state with nine Blazers and Norway is the most well-represented country outside of the U.S. with three players (Thorvaldsen, Love Groth, Overland).
LOTS OF NEW FACES
UAB brings in many new faces for the 2022 season. The Blazers added 19 newcomers during the offseason to add depth to the rotation.
