Strong Doubles Effort Leads UAB at Austin Peay Fall Tournament

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB's women's tennis team opened its Fall season this past weekend in Clarksville, Tenn. at the Austin Peay Fall Tournament.
In addition to the host Governors, the three-day round robin event included WKU, Chattanooga, UT Martin, Cumberland and Murray State.
In singles, the Blazers went 4-2 against Murray State, 2-5 vs. Austin Peay, 3-3 vs. Chattanooga and 6-0 over Cumberland. The Blazers were 15-10 overall in singles.
Mackenzie White went a perfect 3-0, Maggie White was 3-1, Enya Ratkic, Alexandra da Silva, Annalisa Smith and Adela Wasserbauerova each picked up a pair of singles wins while Sydney Clarke recorded one.
The doubles teams turned a strong performance taking nine of the 12 matches. UAB won two of three over Murray State, Chattanooga and Austin Peay, while sweeping Cumberland in all three matches.
Twelve different combinations were used for the 12 doubles matches. Individually, Clarke and da Silva recorded four wins, Smith and Wasserbauerova had three, Mackenzie White had a pair while Ratkic and Maggie White had one each.
After a week off, UAB will head to Macon, Ga. for the Mercer Fall Classic. The three-day event begins Sept. 30 and runs through Oct. 2.
