UAB Softball Releases 2022 Fall Ball Schedule

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Softball team has released their Fall Ball schedule for 2022, spanning from Sunday, Sept. 25 to Friday, Oct. 18 at Mary Bowers Field. Coach AJ Daugherty will have his first appearance in the dugout as a head coach for the Blazers.
"The fall is a great opportunity to get some live reps and continue to install a new system," said Coach Daugherty. "While we are still learning from each other, it provides unmatched experiences with live situations for all of us to continue to grow as a program."
Daugherty's ties with junior colleges provide opportunities that transcend competition, which can be reflected in this year's fall schedule. "We will always have an eye on JuCo talent that may be able to make an impact in our program. Having quality programs visit our campus for fall games is a big win for us; not only for competition but also for recruiting."
UAB opens up the fall series Sunday, Sept. 25 with a double-header, facing the Pensacola State Pirates at 1 p.m., followed up by taking on the Auburn Tigers at 6 p.m.
The Pirates tallied a 39-11 record in the Panhandle Conference, where they would be knocked out of the competition by the eventual NJCAA Champion, Florida Southwestern State. The Tigers finished 40-17 overall and 11-13 in the SEC, finishing the 2022 season in the NCAA Regional.
The following week on Sept. 30, the Blazers take on Chattanooga State Tigers at 3:30 p.m., followed by a meeting with Daugherty's former team, the Wallace State Lions at 6 p.m. The Lions went 56-4 under Daugherty's direction, being ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA Softball Poll for four consecutive weeks.
"This will be the first competition versus my former program." said Coach Daugherty "It will be a special evening for me to get to see my former players and coaches, for sure. Wallace State has a very good program and I invested a lot in it. I will forever be grateful for my time there and look forward to many years of recruiting from their quality rosters."
UAB rounds out the final two weeks by taking on the Itawamba Indians and Marion Military on Friday, Oct. 7, followed by Snead State and Shelton state on Oct. 14.
The Blazers look to use the fall schedule to capitalize on fine-tuning skills for the 2023 season. UAB comes off of a 25-24 overall record and a 13-10 record in Conference USA. They closed out their season in the Conference USA tournament against Charlotte, being shut out by the 49ers.
