UAB Softball Earns Conference USA Academic Excellence Award

DALLAS – The UAB softball team earned the Conference USA Academic Excellence Award for the 2021-22 season, the league office announced on Friday.
The C-USA sport academic awards are given to the programs with the highest team GPA in their respective sports.
The softball team has won the C-USA Academic Excellence Award three straight seasons, finishing with a league-best 3.76 GPA in both 2019-20 and 2020-21. The Blazers finished with a 3.70 GPA this past year.
UAB's softball program had 24 student-athletes named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, which is awarded to student-athletes who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Fourteen UAB student-athletes were also tabbed C-USA Academic Medalists, which are awarded to student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.
UAB hired lifelong Alabama native and the 2022 NJCAA National Coaching Staff of the Year honoree A.J. Daugherty this past Friday. Daugherty coached Wallace State Community College to an impressive 260-58 (.818) record in six seasons, highlighted by a 111-10 mark over the past two campaigns. He led Wallace State to the NJCAA National Tournament four times in five seasons (excluding 2020 due to COVID-19).
Softball season tickets are on sale now by purchasing the 2022-23 Gold Card for $65 here. The 2022-23 Gold Card will get you access to all home events for softball, men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball, women's basketball and baseball (Young Memorial Field and Regions Field). This card is not valid for Conference USA or NCAA Championship events.
