EL PASO- UAB softball completed a series sweep of UTEP today in El Paso, TX. The Blazers (25-23, 13-10) put 10 hits on the board, and played an error free seven innings.

UAB started fast for the third game in a row, getting a leadoff single from Bella Wiggins, and a three-run homer that was belted to centerfield by Sierra Frazier. UAB held a 3-0 lead throughout a scoreless second inning. The Blazers stuffed the stat sheet at the top of the third inning, with a UTEP (15-34, 5-19) error that allowed UAB to plate Lindsey Smith and Jolie Readeaux, an Olivia Valbak RBI single, and a Bella Wiggins RBI that put UAB up 7-0. Each team left a runner on base during the fourth inning, and neither squad scored in innings five or six. UAB went down in order at the top of the seventh, and UTEP got on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh, but UAB threw out the final Miner runner to end the game 7-1.

Lindsey Smith hit a double at the top of the third inning. Sarah Cespedes (11-7) pitched a complete game and struck out six batters. Sierra Frazier collected three RBIs, to bring her series total to 11.

Blazer softball will now turn its attention toward competing in the Conference USA Tournament, beginning May 11 versus Charlotte.
