DENTON- The 2022 UAB softball season came to an end with an 8-0 defeat versus Charlotte in the first round of the C-USA Tournament.
The Blazers (25-24, 13-10) were able to hold the 49ers (34-21, 12-12) off the board at the top of the first, forcing Charlotte to strand two runners on base. UAB loaded the bases in the bottom of the first with a bunt and two walks, but couldn't bring anyone home.
Both squads went down in order in the second inning. At the top of the third, Charlotte took control of the game with a run scored at home plate on an error, an RBI single, and RBI double, and a 3 RBI double to left center field that put the 49ers up 6-0. UAB couldn't score in response in the bottom of the third, and neither team brought anyone home in the fourth inning. Charlotte added to its lead at the top of the fifth, scoring on a UAB throwing error, and a sac-fly. UAB had a chance to avoid the run-rule in the bottom of the fifth, but the Blazers went three-up three down, and the game ended 8-0.
Sarah Cespedes (11-8) was on the hook for the pitching loss. Tyler Armistead and Bella Wiggins each recorded a single.
