BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Department of Athletics once again excelled in the classroom as Blazer student-athletes posted a 3.23 GPA for the Spring 2022 semester.
This marks 17 consecutive semesters that the department's student-athletes have had over a 3.0 GPA. Overall, 15 of UAB's 18 sports had a 3.0 GPA or higher during this past semester.
In total, 292 student-athletes (62%) earned a 3.00 GPA or above, 185 (40%) earned a 3.5 GPA or above and 92 (20%) earned a perfect 4.00 GPA. Fifty-six student-athletes, representing 23 different majors, earned their degrees in April. Twenty-seven graduated with honors including nine that graduated Summa Cum Laude.
"This has been another great semester by our UAB Blazers in the classroom during the Spring 2022 term," said Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services Antwan Joseph. "Congratulations to all of our graduates and thank you for positively impacting the UAB campus community as well as the greater Birmingham area. We look forward to seeing you succeed in all of your future endeavors. Go Blazers!"
Individually, three Blazers earned spots on Conference USA All-Academic teams – Michael Ertel from men's basketball, Nick Robillard from men's golf and Michal Lusovsky from men's tennis. Laci Turner from women's track was the C-USA Spirit of Service Award winner.
