UAB Prepares to Battle Charlotte in C-USA Tournament

DENTON- Tomorrow, the quest for a C-USA title begins for UAB softball. The Blazers (25-23, 13-10) will face Charlotte (33-21, 12-12) at 12:00 p.m. in Denton, TX.
"We're ready to play our one game season each day," said head coach Joe Guthrie. "It's an honor to get the chance to go after a championship."
UAB LATELY
The Blazers are riding a four game win streak; UAB swept UTEP this past weekend, in large part due to catcher Sierra Frazier, who was recently named as a First Team All-Conference selection. Frazier has 48 RBIs and seven home runs on the season. At third base, Lindsey Smith has been named to the C-USA All-Freshman team, and ranks second in Conference USA in total assists (138). Sarah Cespedes (11-7) has been the Blazer's top pitcher in 2022. She has pitched 120.1 innings and collected 86 strikeouts on the season. The Blazers have four players with 40+ hits this year.
SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Charlotte will be looking to mine a path to the championship game, and they will be led by 2022 Conference USA Player of the Year Bailey Vannoy. Vannoy earned her second straight C-USA Player of the Year award after leading the league in home runs, RBI, and slugging percentage. Her 13 home runs and 77 total bases in C-USA play are new league records. Her 52 career home runs are the second-most in C-USA history. She leads C-USA with 56 RBIs. The 49ers were well represented in Conference Awards, Charlotte had two First Team All-Conference selections, two Second Team All-Conference selections, and one player on the All-Freshman Team.
The tournament games will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
