UAB Drops Second Game Versus Western Kentucky

BIRMINGHAM- The UAB softball team dropped the second game of a three-game series against Western Kentucky.
After the Blazers (20-15, 8-3) retired WKU's first three batters, UAB struck first on a Faith Hegh double that brought home Tyler Armistead. After scoreless second and third innings, Western Kentucky (27-7, 11-3) took the lead on a homerun to centerfield that scored three batters at the top of the fourth. Western Kentucky later added to its lead with a 2 RBI triple. UAB was poised to answer in the bottom of the fourth with runners on second and third but couldn't bring them home and the score remained 5-1 in favor of the Hilltoppers.
Both squads went three up, three down in the 5th inning. In the top of the sixth, Western Kentucky went on another scoring tear that saw the Hilltoppers score five runs to stretch their lead. UAB couldn't get a hit in their final chance at bat, and the game ended 10-1 in favor of WKU.
Makenna Pierce (5-3) was given the pitching loss for UAB.
The Blazers will end the series versus WKU tomorrow at noon.
Sunday's game is a part of Sunday Funday, where fans 17 and under get in free with the purchase of an adult ticket. Fans in the sixth grade and under can run the bases after the game. Sunday's Game is also Donate Life Day, when UAB will partner with Donate Life Alabama to raise awareness for Organ Donation.
Softball season tickets are available by purchasing the 2021-22 Gold Card for $65 here. The 2021-22 Gold Card will get you access to all home events for Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, Volleyball, Women's Basketball, Softball, and Baseball (Regions Field & Young Memorial). This card is not valid for Conference USA or NCAA Championship events.
