Late Rally Falls Short in UAB Baseball’s 3-2 Loss at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UAB scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning, but was unable to score the tying run as the Blazers fell to Charlotte 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Hayes Stadium.
Charlotte completed the sweep of UAB with the win on Sunday and now both teams have identical records of 23-16 overall and 8-10 in Conference USA play.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the eighth innings when Charlotte's Jake Cunningham launched a three-run home run to center field for what proved to be the game-winning hit.
UAB rallied in the top of the ninth inning as Darryl Bugg's RBI single scored Tyler Waugh, followed by an RBI fielder's choice from John Marc Mullins which brought the score to 3-2. After a Charlotte pitching change, AJ Wilson was able to tally a strikeout to give Charlotte the win.
The Blazers are back in action this coming weekend at Young Memorial Field as UAB welcomes No. 6 Southern Miss to Birmingham for a three-game series.
