Softball Falls in Six Innings to Louisiana Tech

RUSTON- The UAB softball team fell in the first of a three-game series versus Louisiana Tech. The Blazers (21-19, 9-6) got six hits and seven strikeouts, but ultimately fell to a late scoring run by the Bulldogs that ended the game.

The first inning was scoreless, as each team got runners on base but couldn't score. UAB struck first, with an RBI double from Bella Wiggins in the top of the second. UAB got a triple from Sierra Frazier at the top of the third but couldn't score, and the game remained 1-0. Louisiana Tech (30-17, 10-6) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double. When UAB left a runner on base in the top of the fifth, Louisiana Tech plated three runs in a row to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Bulldogs. After UAB left a runner on base at the top of the sixth inning, Louisiana Tech ended the game with a flurry of scoring that ended with a walk off triple that made the final score 9-1.

Sarah Cespedes (9-5) was given the loss in the circle, after striking out five batters in four innings of work.

UAB will have a chance to tie the series against Louisiana Tech tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in Ruston.
