UAB Wins Series Finale in Friday Doubleheader Against Old Dominion

Old Dominion (25-9, 8-7 C-USA) secured the series victory with a 9-5 win in game one on Friday, holding off a late UAB comeback to give starter Nick Pantos his fifth win of the season.
GAME 2: UAB 7, OLD DOMINION 4
UAB opened game two of Friday's doubleheader with a pair of runs in opening frame, striking first in game two when Josh Sears delivered a two-RBI double to make it 2-0 UAB.
After Kenny Levari trimmed UAB's lead to 2-1 with an RBI single in the third, the Blazers would score three straight runs to stretch their lead to 5-1. Christian Hall crushed his seventh home run of the season in third to restore UAB's two-run lead, blasting a ball to the opposite field with a solo shot to left field.
Hall then singled in the fifth, driving in John Marc Mullins to extend UAB's lead to 4-1. Brandon Willoughby made it 5-1 Blazers when he grounded a 3-2 pitch to the right side, driving in Logan Braunschweig with an RBI groundout.
Brooks Walton pitched into the seventh in Friday's nightcap, finishing his night with 6.1 innings pitched and only three runs allowed with five strikeouts and no walks. Aidan Moza and Collin Taylor would finish off Walton's efficient start with 2.2 innings of relief, allowing only one run and five hits.
Old Dominion trimmed its deficit to 5-3 in the seventh with a two-run homer from Matt Coutney. UAB would respond one inning later, adding a pair of insurance runs in the eighth with a solo home run from Henry Hunter and an RBI single from Darryl Buggs.
Eight of nine UAB batters tallied a hit in the Friday night victory as the Blazers outhit Old Dominion 13-11. On the mound, UAB struck out nine Monarchs while allowing only one walk.
GAME 1: OLD DOMINION 9, UAB 5
Old Dominion jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game one of Friday's doubleheader, using home runs from Tommy Bell and Matt Coutney to build its lead after five innings.
Darryl Buggs got the Blazers on the scoreboard with an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Matthew Golda from second.
After Old Dominion stretched its lead to 9-1 in the ninth, UAB started its comeback a little too late, scoring four runs in its final at-bat to finish the game at 9-5. Buggs began the rally with his second RBI single of game one, cutting UAB's deficit to 9-2. Golda then scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-3.
An RBI double down the left-field line from John Marc Mullins made it 9-4 before Brandon Willoughby drove in UAB's final run of the game with an RBI single through the left side.
Old Dominion's Nick Pantos earned the win, moving to 5-0 on the season. Tyler O'Clair suffered his second loss of the season, allowing two runs with seven strikeouts and four walks over four innings.
UP NEXT
UAB will look to go for the midweek sweep over Alabama on Tuesday in Tuscaloosa. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will stream live on SEC Network+. The Blazers defeated the Crimson Tide 5-4 on March 23 at Regions Field.
