Men’s Golf Places Ninth at Mossy Oaks Collegiate

BIRMINGHAM – In a field loaded with the nation's top teams, the UAB men's golf team placed ninth out of 19 at the Mossy Oaks Collegiate hosted by Mississippi State University at Mossy Oaks Country Club on Tuesday.
The 47th-ranked Blazers concluded the regular season with an overall record of 103-37-3, and now turn their attention to postseason play, beginning with the Conference USA Tournament which starts in two weeks.
Reigning Conference USA Golfer of the Year Nick Robillard led the Blazers by tying for 23rd overall at even par. Robillard (74-74-68 = 216, E) fired a four-under 68 on the last 18 holes to move up 33 spots on the leaderboard during the final round.
Senior John Racciatti also had a good all-around tournament, tying for 37th overall. Racciatti (73-73-72 = 218, +2) played consistent golf all week to help the Blazers to a top 10 finish.
Khavish Varadan (74-73-73 = 220, +4) tied for 46th, while Alfix Fox (80-70-72 = 222, +6) moved up throughout the three rounds to place in a tie for 59th. Paul Bruce (75-81-73 = 229, +13) rounded out UAB's efforts.
No. 3 Vanderbilt (-25) won the tournament and was followed by No. 16 Auburn (-13), LSU (-10), Mississippi State (-10) and Kansas State (-3).
The Blazers now head to Texarkana, Ark., to battle for the C-USA crown and will be one of the front-runners to win the event along with No. 26 Charlotte, Middle Tennessee and UTSA.
