UAB Beach Defeats UNCW and No. 19 Stetson at Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The UAB beach volleyball team registered a pair of 3-2 victories over UNC Wilmington and No. 19 Stetson on the opening day of the Carolina Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina.

The win over Stetson was UAB's first over a nationally ranked opponent this season and its fourth in program history. The two wins improve UAB's record to 7-14 overall, with 10 of its losses coming against nationally ranked competition.

Rachel Tam and Adriana Pereira on court one and Ella Alexander and Jessica Ennis on court five were each 2-0 on the day. In the morning match against UNCW, Mikayla Law-Heese and Dylynn Otte secured the victory with a three set victory on court three.

In the afternoon match against Stetson, it was once again Otte on court three, this time with teammate Jenna Gathright, who gave UAB the victory with 24-22, 21-19 straight set victory with the match tied at 2-2.
