UAB Hosts Marshall for C-USA Series at Young Memorial Field

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB baseball team will carry a three-game winning streak into its third C-USA series of the 2021-22 season this weekend when the Blazers host Marshall at Young Memorial Field.
The Blazers (17-7) and Thundering Herd (12-12-1) will open this weekend's series on Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday's first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m., while Sunday's series finale is set to start at 1 p.m. All three matchups will stream live on CUSA.tv.
The Atlanta Braves World Series Trophy Tour will also be in town for Saturday's game against Marshall. Fans who purchase tickets to Saturday's game at Young Memorial Field will be able to see the World Series trophy on display from 1-4 p.m. Gates open at 1 p.m. to the general public on Saturday.
The Blazers will feature their usual starting rotation this weekend – Jackson Reynolds (1-2) on Friday, Tyler O'Clair (1-1) on Saturday and Brooks Walton (4-0) on Sunday.
Brandon Willoughby ignited UAB's current three-game winning streak with a walk-off home run in Sunday's series finale victory over Middle Tennessee in 10 innings. The Blazers then earned bragging rights in Birmingham with an 8-4 win over Samford, helping first-year head coach Casey Dunn notch a victory over his former team.
Christian Hall and Darryl Buggs each homered in the crosstown victory over the Bulldogs on Tuesday. Buggs paced the Blazers with three RBI, tying Hall for a team-high two runs scored. Collin Taylor recorded the final out in Tuesday's triumph to nail down his team-high fourth save of the season.
UAB then made it three straight victories Wednesday with a 10-4 victory over Birmingham-Southern in the inaugural Rickwood College Classic. The Blazers scored five runs in first inning and never trailed as freshman Logan Braunschweig had a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs scored and a double. His two-RBI single in the first inning marked his first-collegiate hit.
Hall continues to lead UAB in a number of hitting categories, including batting average (.413), OPS (1.147), hits (33) and slugging percentage (.663). Josh Sears leads the Blazers in home runs (seven), RBI (28) and total bases (55).
On the mound, Walton leads the Blazers with a 4-0 record. The Blazers are a perfect 6-0 this season in games the right-hander starts. Taylor leads the Blazers in ERA (0.87), WHIP (0.87) and saves (four) with a minimum of five innings pitched this season. As a team, UAB ranks third in Conference USA with a 4.20 team ERA.
