BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's basketball team learned Sunday that they will face Houston in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
The first round game will played on Friday, March 18, at 8:20 p.m. CT in Pittsburgh at PPG Paints Arena. Friday's game will be broadcasted live on TNT. UAB's No. 12 seeding is its highest since the Blazers made the Big Dance back in 2010-11.
UAB punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night in Frisco, Texas, defeating Louisiana Tech 82-73 for its sixth conference tournament title in program history. The Blazers' single-season record 27th victory of the year also secured their spot in their 16th NCAA Tournament in UAB men's basketball history.
Saturday night's win also marked UAB's fifth Conference USA Championship in program history, two of which have come in the conference tournament. UAB's nine-point victory also sends head coach Andy Kennedy back to March Madness in just his second season back in Birmingham, marking the third NCAA Tournament appearance of his head coaching career.
Jordan Walker, Conference USA's Player of the Year, earned Conference USA Tournament Most Valuable Player honors after averaging 31 points per game in UAB's storied run at The Star.
Michael Ertel earned C-USA All-Tournament Team honors for the second straight season with three straight 15+ point performances. Quan Jackson rounded out the trio of Blazers on the All-Tournament Team after posting back-to-back double-doubles to open C-USA's run to a conference championship.
