Blazers Host Belmont for Weekend Series

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB baseball team welcomes Belmont to Young Memorial Field for a three-game series Friday and Sunday. Friday will be a doubleheader with a 1 p.m. first pitch, while the series finale will be on Sunday at 1 p.m.
PITCHING PROBABLES
Game 1: RHP Jackson Reynolds (1-0, 2.04 ERA) vs. Joshua South (1-0, 3.18 ERA)
Game 2: RHP Tyler O'Clair (1-0, 8.03 ERA) vs. Andy Bean (2-1, 1.88 ERA)
Game 3: RHP Brooks Walton (2-0, 3.60 ERA) vs. Jalen Borders (1-0, 2.70 ERA)
SCHEDULE UPDATE
Due to projected weather in the Birmingham area this weekend, the series schedule was updated on Thursday afternoon.
Friday – UAB vs. Belmont – 1 p.m. (DH)
Saturday – No game
Sunday – UAB vs. Belmont – 1 p.m.
UAB (9-3) VS. BELMONT (11-3)
The series marks the first meeting between the two programs since Feb. 20, 2001. UAB and Belmont have only met four times before this weekend with the Blazers holding the all-time series record 4-0 over the Bruins.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers picked up their first midweek win of the season in a 3-2 victory over Alabama State at Young Memorial Field. UAB has won three-straight series to open the season with wins over Northwestern, at Southeastern and back home versus Alabama &M.
ABOUT THE BLAZERS
At the plate, the Blazers are led by John Marc Mullins with a .435 batting average. Mullins also leads the team with 10 walks on the season. Senior Caleb Floyd leads the Blazers with 21 hits on the year, which is 34th nationally. Josh Sears and Henry Hunter lead with three home runs each.
In his last appearance on the mound, the projected Sunday starter, Brooks Walton, threw a two-hit gem in the Blazers' series clinching win over Alabama A&M. Walton tossed the first complete game of the season, going seven innings and allowing two runs with two strikeouts.
SCOUTING BELMONT
The Bruins got off to a quick start to the season. Belmont suffered an Opening Day loss to Toledo, but bounced back with 10 straight wins. They are currently 11-3 on the season.
Belmont is led at the plate by Jackson Campbell who has a .425 batting average over 12 games. Guy Lipscomb has 13 steals on the season, which ranks second nationally.
As a team, the Belmont pitching staff has posted a 2.45 ERA in 117.0 innings pitched and holding opponents to a .200 batting average. Kyle Brennan leads the staff with seven saves on the season, which leads the nation.
