UAB Baseball Travels to Auburn for Midweek Tilt

BIRMINGHAM — Off to its best start since the 2019 season, the UAB baseball team makes the trip down to Auburn for a midweek matchup with the Tigers on Wednesday. First pitch from Plainsman Park is scheduled for 6 p.m. on SEC Network+.

In the 63rd all-time meeting between the programs, Auburn leads the overall series, 51-11. The Blazers and Tigers met once during the 2021 season, which Auburn won at Regions Field, 6-5.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers opened the season with a four-game series sweep of Northwestern before traveling to Southeastern and winning the series versus the Lions, 2-1, to move to 6-1 on the season.
Freshman catcher Henry Hunter is leading the Blazers at the plate with a .421 batting average with eight hits, a triple, two home runs and four RBIs. Senior Caleb Floyd ranks in the top five in the conference with four stolen bases on the year.
Senior infielder Josh Sears was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week on Feb. 28 following his performance at Southeastern where he had a .385 batting average with two doubles and the go-ahead three-run home run in the series clinching game.
Freshman Thomas Ballard is projected to make his first career start on the mound Wednesday. The right-handed pitcher has two appearances on the season with a 1-0 record and a 0.00 ERA. In 4.2 innings, Ballard has allowed one hit with five walks and five strikeouts.
As a team, the Blazers have a .316 batting average with 73 hits, eight doubles, three triples and six home runs. The .316 average is second in Conference USA and 33rd in the nation.
SCOUTING AUBURN
The Tigers opened the 2022 season at the State Farm Classic Showdown that featured, No. 12 Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Kansas State. Auburn turned in a 2-1 weekend with a win over Texas Tech.
In the first midweek of the season, Auburn faced in-state foe Troy and saw a 13-1 victory over the Trojans. Last weekend, Auburn took the series 2-1 over Yale.
Auburn is led at the plate by Sonny DiChiara with a .545 average in seven games. DiChiara leads the team in doubles (6), home runs (3) and OPS (1.872).
