Gaines Leads Men’s Basketball to Win Over Presbyterian

BIRMINGHAM – Eric Gaines finished with 16 points and 10 assists to lead UAB men's basketball (2-1) to a 92-61 win over Presbyterian (1-3). Four different Blazers finished in double-figures and UAB shot over 55 percent from the field on the evening.

A balanced scoring attack helped the Blazers slowly build a double-digit lead in the first half. UAB shot 60 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes of the contest largely due to its ability to get to the rim. The Blazers scored 28 of their 44 first half points in the paint.

Jordan Walker saw most of his action for the evening in the first half, scoring 10 of his 15 points. Eric Gaines commanded the point guard position for the majority of the evening, dishing out a career-high 10 assists. UAB led by 14 at the break.

In the second half, the Blazers took control. The Blue Hose cut the lead to 11, but UAB answered right back, putting the lead at 20 just over two minutes later on a Jordan Walker free throw.

The night was highlighted by a high-flying display of dunks from the Blazers. UAB finished with 12 dunks on the night, led by Eric Gaines with three.

UAB's balanced attack stretched the lead out to as many as 33 in the second half, spurred on by seven second-half points from Tony Toney.

NOTES

UAB's 25 assists are the program's most since March 3, 2018 vs. Western Kentucky.
Eric Gaines matched his career best with 16 points and set a career high with 10 assists.
Gaines also finished with four rebounds, three blocks and three steals.
Javian Davis finished in double figures for the second-straight game, adding 13 points, the most during his time at UAB.
KJ Buffen added 14 points and grabbed six rebounds in an efficient outing.
Efrem Johnson knocked down a pair of three pointers to record six points over 21 minutes of action.
Nine different UAB players finished with at least six points.
Jordan Walker has hit a three-point field goal in all 37 of his games as a Blazer.
