DALLAS – UAB Men's Soccer (2-7-2, 0-3-2 AAC) battled No. 23 SMU (8-2-1 , 4-1-0 AAC) down to the wire, but a penalty kick early in the second half was the difference as the Blazers fell 1-0. Jack Hudson continued his stellar season with eight saves on the night.

The Mustangs controlled the pace of play in the first half. SMU fired 11 shots in the first 45 minutes while UAB managed only three. Hudson continually prevented the high-powered attack of SMU from getting on the board, coming up with five saves. The Mustangs had seven corners in the first half compared to UAB's one.

Early in the second half, SMU was able to draw a penalty after three minutes of action. Knut Ahlander put it in the back of the net to make it 1-0 for the Mustangs.

In the 69th minute, Nathaniel St. Louis was fouled just outside of the penalty box. The referee used VAR to check if the foul had occurred inside the box, but ultimately the original call remained. The Blazers could not convert, and the score stayed the same.

Curtis DeLeon provided a scoring chance in the 78th minute but the ball rolled just to the right of the goal. The Blazers had four shots on goal in the game and they could not get on the board.

NOTES

SMU leads the all-time series 7-3-2.
Jack Hudson made eight saves on the night, his second highest total on the year.
SMU entered the game tied for seventh in the nation with 29 goals. This marks only the fourth time this season that the Mustangs have been held to fewer than two goals.
SMU is the fifth ranked opponent that UAB has faced this season.
