10/13/2022 7:05:00 PM | Men's Soccer
BIRMINGHAM - UAB men's soccer (2-7-2, 0-3-2 AAC) will battle UCF (5-4, 2-3 AAC) on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at PNC Field. The Blazers are looking for their first conference win in the AAC.
SERIES HISTORY
SMU leads the all-time series 8-1-1. The two sides have not met since the 2012 season when both programs were a part of Conference USA. This is the first meeting between the two teams as members of the American Conference. The Blazers have won each of the last six meetings.
OFFICIALLY AAC
UAB men's soccer is the first of all Blazer programs to join the American Athletic Conference. While each of the other UAB programs will join the league in 2023, men's soccer became an affiliate member for the 2022 season due to C-USA no longer supporting men's soccer.
COMMON OPPONENTS
UAB and UCF have faces three common opponents during the 2022 season in Wake Forest, Florida Atlantic and SMU. The Blazers and the Knights have lost each of the three matches.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLAZERS
The Blazers fell to No. 23 SMU in Dallas on Sunday evening. Jack Hudson was stellar with eight saves, allowing only one goal to one of the top attacks in the country on an penalty kick.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
Lucca Dourado leads the offensive production for the Knights. The junior from Brazil has scored 10 goals over the last seven games. UCF's primary goalkeeper, Juanvi Muñoz, has made 34 saves over nine games.
RETURNING PRODUCTION
The Blazers return three of their top four goal scorers from the 2021 campaign in Nathaniel St. Louis, Brooks Rice and Curtis DeLeon. Also returning is Teodor Thorvaldsen who led the team with four assists.
WE'RE ALL FROM SOMEWHERE
UAB men's soccer has student-athletes from six states and eight different countries (Norway, Canada, Germany, Spain, Israel, Hungary, Austria). Alabama is the most well-represented state with nine Blazers and Norway is the most well-represented country outside of the U.S. with three players (Thorvaldsen, Love Groth, Overland).
LOTS OF NEW FACES
UAB brings in many new faces for the 2022 season. The Blazers added 19 newcomers during the offseason to add depth to the rotation.
THE VETERANS
Brooks Rice, Nathaniel St. Louis and Curtis DeLeon have led the way for UAB so far on the offensive end. St. Louis leads the Blazers with four goals on the year while Rice has added three of his own. DeLeon has assisted on four of UAB's seven goals. His four assists are tied for the most by a Blazer since 2015.
TOUGH SCHEDULE
UAB has already faced off with five ranked opponents during the 2022 slate in Clemson, Wake Forest, Charlotte, Tulsa and SMU. Both Clemson and Wake Forest were ranked inside of the top five teams in the nation when they faced the Blazers.
HUDSON'S BRILLIANCE IN GOAL
Graduate student Jack Hudson has been a standout for the Blazers in goal throughout the 2022 season. He was named AAC Goalkeeper of the Week for his performance against then-No. 18/12 Tulsa. Against then-No. 1 Clemson, Hudson made a career-high 10 saves. He followed up that performance against the high-powered attack of No. 23 SMU with eight saves.
