UAB Women’s Tennis Has Strong Showing at ITA Southern Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La. - The UAB's women's tennis participated in the ITA Southern Regionals hosted by LSU this past weekend.
In singles, Adela Wasserbauerova advanced to the Round of 32 after receiving a First Round bye and a victory over Romane Mosse from Jacksonville State. She took the first set from Mississippi State's Alexandra Mikhailuk 6-4 before falling in the next two 6-3, 6-4. She defeated Lilly Walther from Tulane in the backdraw 6-4, 6-2.
Sydney Clarke also advanced to the Round of 32 after defeating South Alabama's Luminita Tutunaru 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 and LA Tech's Ilana Tetraushvili 6-3, 3-6, 6-0. Jacksonville State's Anna Syrova held on to defeat Clarke 1-6, 6-4, 3-6.
Maggie White won a pair of matches to advance to the Round of 32. She beat Lucie Raquin of Louisiana 6-4, 6-0 and LSU's Mia Rabinowitz, who was the No. 6 seed, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4. She was knocked out my Mississippi State's Gia Cohen 6-3, 6-1.
Annalisa Smith also picked up a singles win, a 6-4, 6-1 victory over ULM's Oleksandra Balaba in the Round of 128.
In doubles, Enya Ratkic and Wasserbauerova advanced to the Round of 32 by defeating Jacksonville State 8-2. White and Clark qualified for the Round of 16 after wins over the teams from JSU, 8-2 and Tulane 8-6.
The Fall season comes to a close with the Roberta Allison Fall Classic on Oct. 28-30. The event is hosted by the University of Alabama.
