UAB to Compete at Sea Best Invitational to Open Spring Slate

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's golf team kicks off the spring season at the Sea Best Invitational hosted by Jacksonville University in Ponte Verda Beach, Fla. at TPC Sawgrass – Dye's Valley. The two-day 54-hole tournament begins Monday, Jan. 31 with 36 holes and concludes on Tuesday, Feb. 1 with the final 18. The course is playing as a par 70 that plays 6,873 yards.
UAB enters the weekend ranked 50th in the country with a 33-9 record following a sixth-place finish at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational in Mobile, Ala.
Also competing with the Blazers are No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 26 Liberty, No. 35 Louisville, No. 39 Florida, No. 44 Charlotte, No. 51 North Florida, Campbell, College of Charleston, Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, Lipscomb and USC Upstate.
The Blazers will field a lineup consisting of Nick Robillard, Khavish Varadan, Paul Bruce, Alfie Fox and Ethan Hagood. John Racciatti will be competing as an individual.
Varaden is back in the lineup after missing the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational due to competing at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Dubai. Varaden is the ninth-ranked player in the nation.
Robillard, the reigning Conference USA Golfer of the Year and 53rd ranked player in the nation, closed out the fall season with a stroke average of 69.7. In addition, he had a second-place and a fifth-place tournament finish during the fall campaign.
Varaden and Fox are also averaging under 72 strokes with averages of 68.6 and 71.1 strokes, respectively.
