BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's soccer team fell 1-0 in a defensive battle to Central Arkansas Sunday night at BBVA Field.
The Blazers (1-3) had a game-tying attempt from sophomore defender Owen Travis with less than 15 seconds remaining in the match. Travis, who fired two shots in Sunday's match, rose up from the right side of the box to send a header wide of the right post in the game's waning moments.
UAB opened the second half strong with two shots within the first two minutes of the second half. Senior forward Brooks Rice and Travis registered the pair of attempts for the Blazers.
Central Arkansas (4-0) netted the game-winning goal off a long throw-in from Ole Kjoerholt. UAB goalkeeper Trevor Jackson saved UCA's Edoardo Merci's original shot before Alberto Suarez finished off the rebound for the go-ahead goal.
Jackson made five saves in net for the Blazers. Rice, Travis and sophomore Shane DeLeon recorded shots.
UAB will return to the pitch on Saturday with a matchup against Memphis (0-2-1) at BBVA Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and will close out the Blazers' stretch of three straight home matches.
