GADSDEN, Ala. – The UAB men's golf team is set to host the Graeme McDowell Invitational this Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 27-28, at RTJ Silver Lakes in Gadsden, Ala. Tee time is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning.
The Blazers are the defending champions of this event, but this is the first time the tournament has been held at RTJ Silver Lakes. This is also UAB's first event of the season as their originally scheduled opener in Chattanooga was rained out two weeks ago.
"It's going to be such a great feeling hosting our home event because we really don't get too many opportunities to have so many family and friends attend," said head coach Matt Whall. "The golf course is in great shape, the team is confident and I have full trust in my guys to show what they can do this weekend. It feels like it's been a long time coming but we are ready."
UAB will field an "A" team and a "B" team, along with having two additional individuals play. The field also includes Charleston Southern, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Louisiana, North Alabama, Samford, South Alabama, Texas State, Troy, ULM, Winthrop, WKU.
UAB-A features Nick Robillard, Khavish Varadan, Alfie Fox, Ethan Hagood and John Snoddy. These five are paired with Florida Gulf Coast and ULM.
UAB-B is comprised of Paul Bruce, Cole Imig, Price Brown, Sam Jeffcoat and John Racciatti and they are paired with individual players from teams throughout the field.
The course is a par 72 that plays 7,467 yards. The field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.
