WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
- This is UAB's third straight game away from Birmingham to open the season. Including last season, this Saturday marks the sixth straight game UAB has been on the road.
- UAB looks to continue its dominance against C-USA West Division opponents. Since returning to action in 2017, the Blazers are 18-3 against divisional opponents and are the three-time reigning Conference USA West Division champs, which is a C-USA record.
- Safety Keondre Swoopes scored his first career touchdown last Saturday with a 61-yard pick six at Georgia. Swoopes is having a strong start to his junior campaign as he is the team's second leading tackler with eight stops, along with one TFL and the interception.
- Swoopes' interception return for a touchdown was the first for UAB since TD Marshall's 76-yard interception at North Texas in the 2019 regular season finale. Marshall's pick six proved to be the game winning points, clinching the West Division for the Blazers that season.
- The Blazers were able to move the ball on the ground against Georgia last week, gaining 161 yards and netting 127. DeWayne McBride led the charge with 13 carries for 61 yards and is leading the team with 115 total rushing yards through two games (57.5/game).
- The Mean Green are coming off a 35-12 loss at SMU last week. Despite the loss, UNT has been one of the best teams in the nation at creating turnovers with eight total – four apiece in each game.
- Offensively, UAB will have to contend with UNC transfer quarterback Jace Ruder and UNT's RPO offense. Walk-on wide receiver Roderic Burns is leading Conference USA in receptions (18) and has the third most receiving yards (255) in the league. Running back DeAndre Torrey ranks fifth nationally with 315 total rushing yards.
