Ritchie Kruunenberg Named UAB Women’s Tennis Assistant Coach

BIRMINGHAM. – UAB women's tennis head coach Mark Tjia has announced the hiring of Ritchie Kruunenberg as the Blazers' new assistant coach.
"We are excited to have Ritchie on board," said Tjia. He comes with the highest recommendations from his coaches at Alabama. He has a passion for college tennis and development that will really help us moving forward as we chase new goals in the program."
Kruunenberg, a Nieuw-Vennep, Netherlands native, bring with him a strong track record of both teaching and playing.
As a student-athlete, he played his senior year with the Crimson Tide after Morehead State discontinued its program. In this two season with the Eagles, he was named First Team All-OVC both years, 2015 and 2016. Kruunenberg began his career at Ohio Dominican where he was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.
Kruunenberg earned his bachelor's in commerce and business administration and his master's in strategic management and marketing – both from Alabama. He was a member of Dean's List nine times as well as a member of the All-SEC and All-OVC Academic Honor Rolls.
The Blazers begin their Fall 2021 season the weekend of Oct. 1-3 at the Mercer Gridiron Classic in Macon, Ga.
