Hunter Veach Promoted to UAB Softball Assistant Coach

BIRMINGHAM – UAB softball coach Joe Guthrie has promoted Hunter Veach to assistant coach. Veach served as the Blazers' volunteer assistant coach during the 2021 season, joining Guthrie's staff in Oct. 2020.
"First, I want to thank Scott Woodard for everything he did for UAB Softball," Guthrie said. "He's a great friend, person and coach and we will miss him.
"Thank being said, I am unbelievably happy to welcome Hunter Veach to our staff as our new assistant coach. I think he's one of the brightest minds in softball. He did an incredible job for us last season as our volunteer coach. Courtnay and I are very excited about continuing to work with him."
Last season as a volunteer, Veach helped UAB reach the 30-win plateau for the first time since the 2015 campaign. The Blazers finished 31-19 overall and reached the Conference USA Championship Game in 2021.
Prior to UAB, Veach was the head coach for the National Professional Fastpitch (NPF) team Beijing Shougang Eagles from 2018-20 and was also an assistant coach for the NPF team the Cleveland Comets from 2017-18.
Veach was an assistant coach at Auburn University during the 2016 season when the Tigers finished runner-up in the Women's College World Series. As the pitching coach, he also helped lead Auburn's program to a Super-Regional finish in 2017.
He joined the staff after spending three years as a volunteer assistant coach at Auburn-Montgomery. He was instrumental in the Warhawks' success, helping lead the program to two NAIA National Championships in 2014 and 2015. While in Montgomery, Veach coached four NAIA All-Americans.
"I am extremely honored and grateful for the opportunity to advance within our staff," Veach said. "Coach Guthrie and Foster are fantastic leaders of this program. They share the same vision and passion as I do for teaching this game and developing student-athletes in a way that helps them achieve greatness on the field and become fine young women once their time at UAB has concluded."
