Walker III Leads UAB in Round One of NCAA Noblesville Regional

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Redshirt senior William Walker III shot a one under 71 in the opening round of the NCAA Noblesville Regional and is tied for 11th heading into Tuesday's second round at The Sagamore Club.
On a day in which steady rain fell throughout the entire round, Walker III made the second most pars (15) of anyone in the field. He birdied holes two and 14, while carding a bogey on 15 to complete his round of 71.
UAB (+8) is in eighth place after the first 18 holes and looks to move up three spots by the end of the 54-hole stroke play to advance to NCAA Nationals. Texas (-6) leads the field and is followed by Tennessee (-3), North Florida (-3), North Carolina (-3) and Louisville (E), who round out the top five.
Freshman Khavish Varadan shot UAB's second lowest round of 74 and is tied for 33rd at +2. Varadan made a long birdie putt on nine and chipped in for a birdie on 18, but also tallied four bogeys on the soggy course throughout his opening round.
Senior Drew Mathers shot +3 and is tied for 41st. Sophomore Ethan Hagood was even through 14, but finished his round at +4 and is tied for 49th. Rounding out UAB's lineup was Nick Robillard who had an uncharacteristic round of 79 (+7) and is tied for 66th.
The Blazers are paired with South Florida and Arkansas State in the second round and tee off at 8:55 a.m. EST on Tuesday. Slight rain is in the forecast, but the majority of the rain fell during today's round as the forecast is looking better for the remainder of the tournament.
