Mathers and Varadan Shoot -2 in Round Two of NCAA Regional

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Both senior Drew Mathers and freshman Khavish Varadan shot a two under 70 (-2) on Tuesday to lead the UAB men's golf team in the second round of the NCAA Noblesville Regional at The Sagamore Club.
Mathers tallied a team-high six birdies during the round. He birdied four of his final seven holes, including both 17 and 18. His round of two under moved him to +1 overall for the tournament and he moved up 13 spots into a tie for 28th place.
Varadan's 70 moved him up 14 spots and into the top 20 as he is now tied for 19th overall at even par. His front nine saw him card an eagle, two birdies and four bogeys. Varadan turned it on during the back nine by playing bogey free golf and tallying two birdies.
William Walker III is also tied for 19th overall at even par following a second round 73 (+1). Walker III shot par on 13 holes today, bringing his total to a tournament-high 28 pars through the first two rounds.
As a team, the Blazers shot even par in the second round and are in seventh place overall at +8. UAB will aim to move into the top five by the end of Wednesday's final round to advance to NCAA Nationals. North Florida currently sits in fifth place at -3 as the Blazers have to close an 11 stroke gap.
Texas continues to lead the field at -15, and is followed by Tennessee (-8), North Carolina (-7), Louisville (-6) and UNF (-3).
UAB will once again be paired with South Florida and Arkansas State for the final round of action, which begins at 8:25 a.m. EST.
