Big Second Round Moves UAB up Six Spots at Collegiate Invitational

BIRMINGHAM – Led by the trio of Nick Robillard, William Walker III and Khavish Varadan, the UAB men's golf team moved up six spots into sixth place on the second day of the Collegiate Invitational at the Country Club of Birmingham.
The Blazers entered the day in a tie for 12th place, and now sit tied for sixth after shooting +2 as a team. UAB is +14 overall and is tied with No. 43 Virginia entering the final 18 holes. No. 4 Clemson and No. 19 Tennessee are tied for first at +3, and are followed by No. 22 North Florida (+8), No. 21 Arkansas (+9) and No. 48 Ole Miss (+11).
"I was really proud of the way the guys handled today," head coach Mike Wilson said. "We knew the course was going to play extremely difficult. They managed to navigate the difficult holes well and we had a very strong finish."
Robillard shot an even par 71 and remains in fourth place entering Wednesday's final round at one under par. He is one shot off of second place, while Bryce Lewis of Tennessee has a commanding seven strokes lead on the field at -9.
Walker III also shot an even par 71 on Tuesday and moved by 15 spots into a tie for 14th place. Walker (73-71) is +2 overall for the tournament.
The biggest mover of the day was Varadan who shot up 42 spots into a tie for 21st place. Varadan shot a two under 69, which included birding four of his first six holes, and he is now +3 overall for the tournament.
UAB is currently leading ranked teams such as No. 9 Auburn, No. 10 Vanderbilt, No. 23 LSU, No. 29 Alabama and No. 39 Mississippi State entering Wednesday's final round.
