Men’s Golf Falls to North Texas in Match Play Semifinals

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The UAB men's golf team fell 3-2 to North Texas in the semifinals of match play at the Conference USA Championship at Texarkana Country Club.
The Blazers, who are currently ranked No. 37 nationally, now wait for their name to be called during the NCAA Selection Show next Wednesday night, May 5. A berth in NCAA Regionals would be UAB's first since the 2015-16 season.
Nick Robillard won his match 5-and-4, and William Walker III won his match 2-and-1. North Texas then evened the match at 2-2, and all eyes came down to UAB's John Snoddy versus UNT's Sean Wilcox.
With Snoddy up one through 17 holes (started on the back nine), he had a chance to win it for the Blazers on eight, but pushed his putt right of the hole, which gave Wilcox life on the ninth.
Snoddy once again applied pressure by putting his approach shot within 15 feet, but Wilcox drained a 30-footer which sent the decisive match to a 19th hole. Once again, Wilcox drained another long putt on 10 which sent UNT to the championship.
NCAA Regionals are set for May 16-18 at six sites around the country.
