Blazer Baseball Falls at No. 17 LA Tech, 16-1

RUSTON, La. - The UAB baseball team fell, 16-1, in seven innings at nationally-ranked No. 17 Louisiana Tech on Thursday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
Freshman Carson Knight took the loss for the Blazers and fell to 2-3 on the season, while Louisiana Tech starter Jonathan Fincher went the distance and improved to 5-0 on the season.
Colton Schultz went 3-for-3 at the plate against the Bulldogs and scored UAB's lone run of the contest. The senior from Huntsville, Ala. registered a pair of singles and a triple on the day.
Ian Ladner recorded two hits, both singles, as the designated hitter in the No. 5 hole.
The Bulldogs struck first in the bottom of the second with two three-run homers by Kyle Hasler and Hunter Wells to go up 6-0. Louisiana Tech scored three more runs in the second, as Steele Netterville drove in a run on a double to right center before Manny Garcia sent a two-run shot over the left field fence for a 9-0 lead after two.
UAB cut into its deficit in the top of the fourth when Schultz tripled off the right field wall and was driven in on an RBI groundout by Zack Davis to make the score 9-1.
Louisiana Tech tallied two runs on no hits in the bottom of the fourth as two runs were walked in, giving the Bulldogs a lead of 11-1.
In the fifth, LA Tech added a pair of insurance runs, as Alex Ray drove one in with a single through the right side of the infield and Taylor Young brought one home on an RBI sac fly to left, putting the Bulldogs up, 13-1
In the sixth, Adarius Myers homered to left field, driving in three runs and giving Louisiana Tech a 16-1 lead, the eventual final tally.
UAB returns to the diamond for games two and three of the four-game series at Louisiana Tech tomorrow. The seven-inning doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m. in Ruston.
