BIRMINGHAM — The UAB volleyball team heads to Hattiesburg, Miss. for the Conference USA Tournament. The single-elimination action will open for the Blazers on Thursday, April 1 against the second seed from the east division, Charlotte at 7 p.m.

"Charlotte is a team that has had a great season both collectively and with individual efforts. They have a very sizable block that leads the league. They run a system that is very similar to ours, so we have familiarity both defending and attacking it. We are looking forward to bringing the toughness, intelligence and energy we've been working on all year into the match Thursday evening."

STORYLINES
- The Blazers and 49ers are set to meet for the first time since Nov. 10, 2019. UAB leads the all-time series, 18-13.
- A conference tournament appearance marks the first for the Green and Gold since 2013. The seven Conference USA wins marks the most for UAB since the 2013 season.
- Fernanda Maida, Alex Kells and Erin Powers were named to All-Conference USA Teams. Maida received first-team honors, Kells garnered second-team recognition and Powers All-Freshman team.
- Maida has top marks in Conference USA in attacks per set (13.22) and kills per set (4.66). Both rank within the top-10 nationally.
- As a team, UAB leads the conference with 1.66 aces per set in Conference USA matches.
